Fabric Printing Retreat
Ah Haa School for the Arts
Telluride, CO
August 6 - 10, 2026
Join Maude and Andrea Mildred in Telluride for a special 5 day print workshop. Ah Haa is located in the beautiful town of Telluride, Colorado, and the funds from the summer ReTreat series helps to fund their community arts programs. Here is the description and a link to class registration:
Students will learn to design, carve, and print their very own block printed pattern on a variety of fabric items. Class topics will include: developing concepts for pattern design, creating illustrations that translate well into carvings, transferring your illustrations to the block using a variety of techniques, and carving techniques focused on creating blocks that will print well on fabric. After our blocks are created, the class will focus on inking and pressing techniques and how to care for fabric items both before and after printing. During our final studio day, students will have the opportunity to practice and experiment with a large collection of the instructor’s own blocks, different colors of ink, and gradient printing.
This workshop is for folks who want to learn to carve blocks! We will primarily be focused on block carving in this workshop, and the only printing we will do is a test print with ink pads. We WILL talk about: materials and tools, creating an illustration for block printing, transferring your image, and then the fun part, CARVING!
We will use the most basic pencil transfer method in class to create a small project you will likely be able to complete before the inking workshop if you choose to attend both. You will find a copy of the recommended supply list on the Eventbrite event page.
***PLEASE NOTE: I do not offer refunds for workshop tickets since they sell out and if you can’t make it there will be a recording of the class available to you after the class. Please keep this in mind when purchasing tickets.
This online workshop is designed for folks with a block already carved and ready to print. If you need some guidance in the carving process you may want to take both workshops together, or you could also check out my Patreon for access to instructional videos. During this class we will focus on fabric selection and preparation, inking & pressing, and taking care of printed items. The last 30 minutes of class are dedicated to practicing what you’ve learned, sharing projects, feedback and discussion. If the schedule doesn’t work great for you, don’t worry! Everyone registered will get a link to a recording of the workshop a few days after class has ended.
This meeting is over Zoom so if you want to avoid last-minute panic make sure you have the app installed and up to date!
***PLEASE NOTE: I do not offer refunds for workshop tickets since they often sell out. If you can’t make it to the class there will be a recording of the class available to you a few days after the event has ended. Please keep this in mind when purchasing tickets.
There is a recommended supply list on the Eventbrite event page, but if you have trouble finding it here is a link to a welcome message and the class supply list!
