Expect some variation with block printed items, and particularly with white ink that can be a bit more tricky! Hand printed garments are a bit more delicate than machine printed ones, but when washed sparingly in cold water, the ink will hold up for a very long time.
Wash inside out when possible, and dry at a low temperature. Expect the ink to soften and a small amount of the pigment to wash out during the first wash.
